Nothing worse than having your spot on the couch stolen by a couch thief.

and then when you try and regain your spot you’re given the guilt trip. Takes “puppy dog eyes” to an all new level.

Fine – I’ll have my morning coffee at the kitchen table.

Earlier this month my wife and I took some time to go one a monthly photowalk that Efrain from Illuminate Workshops organizes every month free of charge. This photowalk was down at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
Despite the fact that I shoot professionally as a Denver wedding photographer, I still think it’s important to find time to shoot for fun and for creative exploration. Besides often the things I learn shooting for myself are things that I can translate and use for clients in their wedding coverage.
Now while I’ve been to Garden of the Gods many times, it has been a few years, and I’ve never been there at night. We did cut our stay short, something about 20 photographers with tripods and Porthos on a leash was a logistical error that I hadn’t ponder until I thought about how much damage he could do the first time a chipmunk caused him to make a full speed burst and the damage that would do to the good working relationship I have with my insurance agent.
Still we managed to grab a few fun shots.

And in case you’re thinking stuff like this isn’t doable without top of the line pro gear, this was shot on one of my old back up cameras, a canon Rebel, with a non-pro lens – and the most important tool, a tripod.
I hear rumors July’s night walk will be downtown and involve fireworks……….
OK, a few days ago I posted a before picture of how scruffy Porthos can get after just about 2 months in between clips, so just to show the difference here’s a few after pics.

As our 22nd anniversary showed up on the horizon my wife and I starting discussing what we wanted to do to celebrate. Since I’ve been dealing with a bad case of pneumonia this last month we really didn’t plan on doing much – hospital stays and frequent follow up visits along with recovery has been the big focus this month, however I am doing very much better now.
What we did discuss is the hole in our lives since we lost Luna, our white german shepherd who we both loved dearly just over a year ago. While Luna lived to a nice old age and had a good life, it’s been a tough year getting over that and getting ready to move one. Well we’ve decided to do that and to bring a dog into our lives.
While we loved our german shepherd, for this dog we took a lot into consideration, our lifestyles now, size of place, my slight allergies and researched the breeds for a bit before settling on a Bichon Frise. Yeah a lot more “foo foo” dog than the german shepherd was, but a dog well suited to our current life.
So without further ado I present the newest addition of the family, Porthos (from the Three Musketeers).
Since I had to swing by the studio to pick up a lens for an engagement shoot tomorrow we of course had to bring Porthos along to grab a few studio shots with him.
